Momen +

17 Feb

Today I discovered my new favorite fabric shop. It’s called Momen + and it’s in old Torrance on Prado Ave. They have all kinds of Japanese fabrics and a whole table with $2 fat quarters. I seriously want to buy the whole store!! Here’s what I got today

9 Fat quarters and I got a 20% discount for showing a picture of a loved one for their Valentine’s special. I am in love with all the cute prints they had.

I can’t wait to go back and get some more!! In other news we picked up Monkey’s big boy bike tonight. He was so excited he wanted to ride it all around the house but was really good and fought temptation. Tomorrow I’m going to take him out to ride around and get some pictures. Seeing him on that bike reminds me of when I got my first bike. I still remember the day the training wheels came off and how terrified and excited I was. The guy at the bike shop said in 6 months we should take off the training wheels and teach him how to ride without them. It makes me a little scared because I remember falling quite a few times while learning, but also excited because I remember how good it felt when I looked back and saw my dad wasn’t helping me and I was doing it myself.

The other day I said I would post some tutorials that explain hexagon piecing really well and then I got side tracked with catching up on my DVR and piecing my own hexagons. Here is one I really liked, Snippets and Blabbery, she has free hexagon templates that you can print out and she shows you how you can piece without using paper. There’s also a tutorial at Jaybird Quilts that really helped me out. It’s a 3 part tutorial and is really informative. I Googled hexagon quilt tutorials and found a lot of useful info but these 2 were especially helpful. Here’s my little stack of 2″ squares I precut to make my hexagons for a little hexagon organizer I’m making.

I’ve been taking this little project with me to work to do on my breaks and I work on it at night while watching tv. The only thing I don’t like is that you can see the stitches on the front. I have yet to find a tutorial that shows how to not have this happen, but maybe  I’ll just figure it out on my own. For now I’ll just deal with it.

Nice! Hopefully it’s easy for us too. The guy at the bike shop said to give him 6 months and then take off the training wheels. I know I will probably bite my nails down to nothing watching him learn lol. Love you too!
